Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates is home to the world`s most expensive Christmas tree ever. The Emirates Palace hotel has erected an 11 million dollars Christmas tree in their lobby. It will remain on display until the end of the year.
The hotel`s general manager, Hans Olbertz, reports the 43-foot (13-meter) faux fir has 131 ornaments that include gold and precious stones such as diamonds and sapphires.
The hotel is trying to gain a listing in the Guinness World Records for having the most expensive Christmas tree in the world. 131 different jewellery pieces, including gold and precious stones, were provided by a local jeweller. Tourists and visitors stopped for their picture to be taken near the unique tree or just to gaze at it in awe.
`What we are trying to do is to give everybody who visits and everybody who is staying here the chance of to be part of something really special and unique,` the general manager said.
When they deck the halls in opulent Abu Dhabi, it comes with gold ornaments and gem-studded bows on a towering Christmas tree. The 11 million USD symbol of the season has become the latest extravagance at the Emirates Palace hotel, which boasts its own marina, heliport and a vending machine that pops out small gold bars.
